Transaction Rejected. Too large in bytes

I have Electrum LTC-4.2.2.1. I have tried to send LTC to a exchange and also tried to just send them to my same wallet in-order to consolidate. In each case the transaction dos not happen with a error message:

"The server returned an error when broadcasting the transaction.
Consider trying to connect to a different server, or updating Electrum.

The transaction was rejected because it is too large (in bytes)".

Research online seems to indicate this can be fixed by sending to myself and consolidating… but no luck. How (exactly) can I fix this? Thank you for any help!

Try to reduce the inputs before you broadcast the transaction. I think they’re standard about 1500. Switch to 500. Size should drop to below 100K.

Thank you! It was a bit tricky to figure out how to reduce the inputs, but once I did, the transactions worked fine.
