Question about backup

Hi all,
I was reading Securing your wallet - Bitcoin

I don t understand the following quote :

Backup your entire wallet

Some wallets use many hidden private keys internally. If you only have a backup of the private keys for your visible Bitcoin addresses, you might not be able to recover a great part of your funds with your backup.

Do they mean too say to that you need your backup more then the .dat file .
I thought that i was 100 % secure if i used the backup function(assuming i backup correctly and have a 12 digit password)

I assume the process in Litecoin is similar?

The difference between backing up your entire wallet versus just the .dat file. The original post I believe was in the bitcoin wiki page directing how to save it to an image file. The instructions included backing up the blockchain files in addition to the .dat file. Therefore in this context it should mean as such.
